Our body cries for WATER

Did you know?

· All bodies are over 70% water.
· We can live for weeks without food but only a few days without water.
· Most adults need to drink 8 glasses of water a day – only 1 in 10 actually drinks this recommended amount.
· A reduction of your daily requirements of water by 4-5% can reduce your concentration and performance by 20-30%.
· These are the most common causes of headache: 1st, dehydration; 2nd, low blood sugar level and 3rd, weak blood circulation. So before you take a painkiller, try first to drink a glass of water, eat something or go for a vigorous walk.
· People who retain liquids usually don’t have enough water. So do constipated people.
· For every glass or cup of coffee, tea, alcohol or soda we need to drink an extra glass of water as the above drinks dehydrate us.
· When we want to metabolize fat (to burn off fat), we need extra water.

Read the back cover of the book “Your body’s many cries for water” by Dr. Batmanghelidj:

“As a result of extensive research into the role of water in the body, the author, a medical doctor, believes that he has found chronic dehydration to be the cause of many conditions including asthma, allergies, arthritis, angina, migraine headaches, hypertension, raised cholesterol, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, depression, and diabetes in the elderly. According to Dr. Batmanghelidj, the body possesses many different thirst signals. A dry mouth is not a reliable indicator of your body's water needs. He describes a variety of more reliable ones, and helps you learn to understand when your body is calling for water. In this way, he claims you can prevent, treat, and cure a variety of conditions of ill health, at no cost, with what he calls nature's miracle medicine: Water. The author explains how much water one needs to drink a day to stay healthy, and why tea, coffee, and sodas are not good substitutes for water.”

Eight glasses of water is thus what the average adult needs, broken down throughout the day. Before –that’s the right way- you eat anything, try to have one to two glasses of water. Make this a habit. With 5 meals a day – that’s how many you should have, it comes to 5-10 glasses of water. This way you‘ll have all the water you need, facilitate digestion and be satisfied with less food. Beware: Have no liquids 2 hours before going to bed if you get up at night to urinate.
